It
looks more and more like an ark everyday. In
fact, the transformation from broken ground
in May of 2003 to completed Georgia Aquarium
is just a few weeks away. On November 23, downtown
Atlanta's latest attraction will open its doors
to the public. Located just across the street
from Centennial Olympic Park, the Aquarium has
a lot to boast about.
The Georgia Aquarium will have between 100,000
to 120,000 fish, approximately twice the amount
originally reported by Aquarium officials. These
fish will represent over 500 different species.
With names like batfish, sea goblin and bowmouth
guitarfish, the assortment is sure to be fascinating.
In June, a special delivery was made from Taiwan
in the form of two whale sharks, the largest
fish in the ocean. The Georgia Aquarium will
be the first outside of Asia to have a whale
shark on display.
The 460,000 square foot facility will be the
largest aquarium in the United States and one
of the largest in the world. With over 5 million
gallons of marine and fresh water, the Georgia
Aquarium aims to be an entertaining, educational
and scientific institution as well as a world
leader in promoting efforts to conserve aquatic
wildlife.
The Georgia Aquarium will be a great complement
to the hospitality community in Atlanta as well
as a great destination for conventioneers, visitors
and residents alike. For more information please
