2005
Big Year for Atlanta |
As
the new year begins, it is worth a moment
to look back at what a tremendous year 2005
was for Atlanta. A lot happened and here are
some highlights.
Atlantic
Station opened in October. A 138-acre
environmental redevelopment of the Atlantic
Steel Mill in the northwest section of Midtown,
Atlantic Station now boasts residential, office,
retail, entertainment, hotel and green space.
Georgia Aquarium opened in
November as the World’s Largest Aquarium
with 8 million gallons of fresh and marine
water and more than 100,000 animals representing
500 species.
Brand Atlanta launched in
November with a celebration at Symphony Hall.
The branding initiative will boost the hospitality
and tourism industry and provide an opportunity
for shows to integrate this brand into attendance
marketing efforts.
IAEM (International Association
for Exhibition Management) held its annual
exhibition and meeting, Expo! Expo! at the
Georgia World Congress Center at the end of
November. The event was a golden opportunity
for the city to show off all of its hard work
and new developments to the meeting and trade
show industry.
With the closing of such an exceptional year,
the city looks enthusiastically to continued
success in the future.
