HAVE ALL SORTS OF WEATHER FUN AT WEATHERFEST ON SUNDAY

Come visit the Georgia World Congress Center this weekend for WeatherFest, an interactive science and weather show hosted by the American Meteorological Society on Sunday, Jan. 29. With nearly 70 exhibits, the show will provide many opportunities to learn about weather. At WeatherFest, you’ll be able to:

  • Learn how weather and climate affects daily life in Atlanta,Get weather safety information
  • See what happens in the oceans, lakes, rivers and streams
  • Play weather games and win great prizes
  • Visit the Weather Wall and take home a video of yourself giving a forecast on TV
  • Boy and Girl Scouts can earn their weather badge
  • Make your own newspaper weather page
  • See how you can get weather on your cell phone
  • Preview the next new weather show from the Weather Channel
  • Celebrate Ben Franklin's 300th Birthday
  • Build an anemometer
  • Explore the physics of lightning
  • Make clouds
  • Meet hurricane hunters, storm chasers and all the experts
  • Jack Elrod of Mark Trail fame will sign his cartoon strip and will help promote NOAA Weather Radio
  • In addition to the traditional scouting activities, the involvement of the Civil Air Patrol, Young Eagles, and Atlanta Skywarn (amateur HAM Radio operators) is planned
  • When Lightning Strikes will present lightning safety information and talk about people that have survived being struck by lightning. Mary Ann Cooper, M.D., will talk about the medical concerns faced by these survivors
  • Students can explore information on potential careers in meteorology and oceanography as well as scholarship information from the colleges and universities exhibiting.

WeatherFest will take place on Sunday, Jan. 29 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Andrew Young International Boulevard entrance of the Georgia World Congress Center, across from the CNN Center. The event is free and open to the public.
