A
Lot of Downtown Activity this Weekend |
The
Georgia World Congress Center Campus will
be full of activity this weekend with the
FIRST Robotics Championship, Alive! Expo and
the Atlanta Journal-Constitution International
Auto Show. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition
of Science and Technology) is the premier
student robotics competition and celebration
of science and technology. Students work alongside
professional engineers to design, build and
then compete with robots in three simultaneous
competitions. The event is open to the public
and features exciting, high-tech competitions
and access to robot pit areas where teams
repair and refine the robots for competition.
The competitions take place in the Georgia
Dome and the pit areas are in Building C of
the Georgia World Congress Center. FIRST will
have their closing ceremony at Centennial
Olympic Park on Saturday night. This event
is closed to the public, but will include
a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
Alive! Expo will be in Hall A2 on Saturday
and Sunday. This event includes everything
you need to know in order to lead a healthy
lifestyle through a natural and organic approach,
diet and nutrition, exercise, fitness, yoga
and more. The show's mission is to inspire
and encourage all consumers to embrace a life
of health, wellness and fitness through awareness
of natural and alternative solutions, education,
and the lifelong benefits of living a healthy
lifestyle. The show features: nutritional
guidance, healthy cooking demos, product demos,
lectures from industry experts and yoga, pilates
and fitness demonstrations. Tickets cost $12
for one day or $15 for the whole weekend.
The event is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday
and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Drenched
5K Run will begin on International Plaza at
8 a.m. on Sunday. For more information visit

The 24th Annual Atlanta Journal-Constitution
International Auto Show returns to Building
B from April 29-May 7. This event features
a wide variety of styles, including luxury
vehicles, economy cars, sports cars, limited
production cars, convertibles, vans, light
trucks and 4-wheel drive vehicles. The show
will also feature an impressive selection
of specialty vehicles. Admission is $10 for
adults, $5 for 6-12 year old children, and
free for children under 6. For more information

Philips Arena, located adjacent to the GWCCA
campus, will host an arena football game Saturday
night at 7 p.m. Georgia Force will take on
Chicago Rush. For more information on Philips

Heavy traffic is expected in and around downtown
this weekend due to the number of events going
on. Attendees are encouraged to take MARTA
to arrive safely and quickly to their destination.

Expect another busy weekend May 6-7 as the
AJC Auto Show continues and GWCC hosts the
Real Estate Wealth Expo (Saturday and Sunday)
and the ATL Spring Fest 2006 (Saturday-Monday)
and the Georgia Dome hosts Georgia Tech's
