ATLANTA (May 24, 2007) –Two Georgia World Congress Center attendees became special guests when they visited the Georgia Aquarium this week. Amy Warner and Dawn Zimmerman of Erie, Pa., were greeted by Georgia Aquarium benefactor Bernie Marcus, President and Executive Director Jeff Swanagan and Aquarium staff members as they entered the attraction on Wednesday. Warner and Zimmerman were visiting the Aquarium while in Atlanta for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition at the GWCC and were surprised to learn that they were the aquarium’s five-millionth visitors.
Atlanta’s downtown convention and tourism industry has rapidly grown over the past few years, and the Georgia Aquarium’s five-millionth visitor arrived just a mere 18 months after opening. The aquarium is the world’s largest with more than eight million gallons of water and the largest collection of aquatic animals. In addition to the milestone in attendance at the aquarium this week, this is an exciting time downtown as the New World of Coca-Cola opens today, next to the Georgia Aquarium and across the street from Centennial Olympic Park. Numerous other construction projects are underway for new hotels, residential and retail space making this a great time for downtown.
