Al Dyess Appointed Assistant General Manager of GWCC

Atlanta – Al Dyess has been named assistant general manager of the Georgia World Congress Center, effective May 2. Dan Graveline, Georgia World Congress Center Executive Director, announced the appointment on April 19.

Dyess succeeds Mark Zimmerman, who was named the convention center’s general manager last fall. Dyess is no stranger to the convention industry, starting his career nearly 20 years ago with United Exposition Services in his hometown of Atlanta. For the past 12 years, Dyess has worked with one of the nation’s largest tradeshow and convention general contractors – GES Exposition Services - first as an operations manager and later as general manager, regional vice president and most recently as senior executive vice president of the western region in Las Vegas.

As assistant general manager, Dyess will be responsible for managing the operations of the nation’s fourth largest convention center.

“Al’s background in this industry is a great fit for our facility,” said Graveline. “The convention and tradeshow industry is competitive and Al’s extensive knowledge of the exhibition business will help Atlanta maintain its competitive edge.”

Dyess is president-elect and an active member of the Exhibition Services and Contractors Association (ESCA) as well as a member of the Exhibit Designers and Producers Association (EDPA). He and his wife Robin have three children.
