Georgia World Congress Center Authority Gears up for Weekend of Multiple Crowd-Drawing Events

ATLANTA (March 9, 2004) - This weekend, the Georgia World Congress Center and the Georgia Dome will host a variety of events, creating a lot of hustle and bustle in the downtown convention corridor. From the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament and the affiliated Dr Pepper's FanFare to the 22 nd annual Atlanta Journal-Constitution International Auto Show, the campus comes alive with spring events.

The 2004 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament returns to the Georgia Dome beginning Thursday, March 11 and running through Sunday, March 14. The tournament features 11 games of SEC teams battling it out for the title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Hours are as follows:

Round One (March 11)
Session 1 - Gates open at noon
Auburn vs. UGA- 1:00 p.m. Tip Off
Ark. vs. USC - 3:15 p.m. Tip Off
Session 2 - Gates open at 6:30p.m.
Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt - 7:30 p.m. Tip Off
Tenn. vs. Alabama - 9:45 p.m. Tip Off

Round Two (March 12)
Session 1 - Gates open at noon
Game 5 - 1:00 p.m. Tip Off
Game 6 - 3:15 p.m. Tip Off
Session 2 - Gates open at 6:30p.m.
Game 7 - 7:30 p.m. Tip Off
Game 8 - 9:45 p.m. Tip Off

Round Three (March 13)
Semifinals - Gates open at noon
Game 9 - 1:00 p.m. Tip Off
Game 10 - 3:15 p.m. Tip Off

Finals (March 14)
Gates open at 11:30a.m.
Game 11 - 1:00 p.m. Tip Off


In association with the big game, fans can attend Dr Pepper SEC FanFare , located next door at the Georgia World Congress Center. This event is designed for fans of all ages and features interactive games, displays, exhibits, video presentations and much more. FanFare will be held in GWCC Building C on:

Thursday, March 11: 11a.m. - 8p.m.
Friday, March 12: 11a.m. - 8p.m.
Saturday, March 13: 10a.m. - 4p.m.

Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for children and 3-day tickets cost $12 tickets. Tickets will be sold in C1.

Now in its 22nd edition, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution International Auto Show is an annual showcase of the newest model year import and domestic vehicles - cars, vans, light trucks and sport utilities. This event will be held in GWCC Building B (B1-B5). Factory and dealer representatives from the 35 exhibiting car lines are on hand to answer questions. There are cars to suit every budget and lifestyle in this largest car-selling event of the year for auto dealers.

Wednesday, March 11: 11am - 9pm
Thursday, March 12: 11am - 9pm
Friday, March 13: 11am - 10pm
Saturday, March 14: 10am - 10pm
Sunday, March 15: 10am - 7pm

Heavy traffic is expected in and around downtown this weekend due to the number of events ongoing. The GWCCA operates more than 4,000 parking spaces on campus, but the quickest way to and from these events is by taking MARTA to the GWCC/Dome/CNN/Philips station.
